NAMI Texas Advocacy Alert for May 21, 2013

Thank you all so much for contacting your legislators in support of various bills throughout the session. There is only a week left to go and we need to continue encouraging legislators to vote in support of bills that would improve the quality of life for individuals living with mental illness and their families.

Tomorrow on the House floor, there are a few bills being heard that NAMI Texas would greatly appreciate you reaching out to your State Representative in support of.

-SB 1352: Relating to inclusion of mental health concerns in existing state and local coordinated school health efforts.
-SB 460: Relating to inclusion of instruction in the detection and education of students with mental or emotional disorders in the requirements for educator training programs.
-SB 1178: Relating to training for public school educators in identifying mental health and suicide risks among students.

Also, please contact your State Senator in support of:

-HB 1023: Relating to recommendations by the Health and Human Services Commission or a designated health and human services agency regarding mental health workforce shortages.
-HB 595: Relating to certain health programs and councils.

As always, thank you so much for your efforts to improve the quality of life and aid in the recovery of Texans with mental illness.
